Why We’re Benzene-Free (And Why That Matters)

We all want to feel good about what we put on our skin—especially when what we are putting on is meant to protect us- like sunscreen. You may have heard that some major household brands were caught up in a scary situation recently: their sunscreens tested positive for benzene, a harmful chemical that has no business being in your daily skincare routine.

At Florida Glow, we’ve made it our mission to keep things safe and simple. Our sunscreen? 100% certified benzene-free. Here’s why that matters and how we do it.

So, What is Benzene Anyway?

Benzene is a chemical and known carcinogen linked to some serious health risks (think blood disorders and cancer). It’s used industrially in things like plastics, but it should never be in something you’re applying to your skin. Unfortunately, many sunscreens have shown to be contaminated with benzene due to the chemical propellants found in them. These chemicals are needed to propel the sunscreen out of the can, but this is not the only way sunscreen sprays can be made. We will get into the alternative shortly!

Why Aerosols Are Risky

Most of the sunscreens that tested positive for benzene were aerosols. Why? Because they use chemical propellants to spray the product, and those propellants can be contaminated. Yikes.

Our Solution: Non-Aerosol Cans Made Using BOV Technology

We said "no thanks" to aerosol formulas. Instead, we use Bag-On-Valve (BOV) technology. It’s powered by air (yep, just air!)—so there’s no need for chemical propellants, and zero risk of benzene contamination. Plus, it gives you an even, smooth spray. It can even spray upside down!

Why You Can Trust Us

We don’t just talk the talk.We create our sunscreen with care and have tested it for benzene to make sure it is certified benzene-free. The result? A clean, effective sunscreen that you will enjoy using, without putting your health at risk.

That’s the Florida Glow way.
